At less than a year old, Axel began losing weight. He had no appetite and developed what looked like an allergic reaction on his face. At first, doctors told his mom, Sthefany, that it was likely a virus or seasonal allergies—nothing serious. But when his symptoms didn’t improve, further testing revealed the diagnosis: acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

His parents felt their world collapse. 

Treatment began almost immediately. When they arrived in Denver on May 31, 2025, Axel was admitted straight to the intensive care unit. Two days later, he started chemotherapy.

Everything moved quickly, leaving Axel’s parents no time to plan where they would stay during his treatment.

That’s when they found Brent’s Place. 

At Brent’s Place, they found more than a spacious apartment near the hospital. With a full kitchen, comfortable space, and no housing costs to worry about, they felt an enormous weight  lift from their shoulders.

“I was so relieved,” Sthefany shared. “It felt like we were in our own home.” 

Axel’s family found moments of joy and normalcy woven into their time at Brent’s Place. Holiday celebrations—like Valentine’s Day and Christmas parties—gave their family a chance to step away from the stress of treatment and simply be together. For a few hours, they could laugh, celebrate, and create memories during an incredibly difficult time.

Today, Axel is continuing chemotherapy and making strong progress. His family remains hopeful as they look ahead.

A menos de un año de edad, Axel comenzó a perder peso. No tenía apetito y desarrolló lo que parecía una reacción alérgica en el rostro. Al principio, los médicos le dijeron a su mamá, Sthefany, que probablemente era un virus o alergias de temporada—nada grave. Pero cuando  sus síntomas no mejoraban, utilizaron pruebas más exhaustivas que revelaron el diagnóstico: leucemia linfoblástica aguda (LLA).

Sus padres sintieron que su mundo se derrumbaba.

El tratamiento comenzó casi de inmediato. Cuando llegaron a Denver el 31 de Mayo de 2025, Axel fue ingresado directamente a la unidad de cuidados intensivos. Dos días después, comenzó la quimioterapia.

Todo sucedió muy rápido, y los padres de Axel no tuvieron tiempo para planificar dónde quedarse durante el tratamiento.

Fue entonces cuando encontraron Brent’s Place.

En Brent’s Place, encontraron mucho más que un amplio apartamento cerca del hospital. Con una cocina completa, un espacio cómodo y sin preocupaciones por los costos de alojamiento, sintieron que un enorme peso se les quitaba de los hombros.

“Estaba muy aliviada,” compartió Sthefany. “Sentíamos que estábamos en nuestro propio hogar.”

La familia de Axel encontró momentos de alegría y normalidad entretejidos en su estancia en Brent’s Place. Las celebraciones festivas—como las fiestas de San Valentín y Navidad—le dieron a su familia la oportunidad de alejarse del estrés del tratamiento y simplemente estar juntos. Por unas horas, podían reír, celebrar y crear recuerdos en medio de un momento increíblemente difícil.

Hoy, Axel continúa con la quimioterapia y está teniendo una gran mejoría. Su familia sigue llena de esperanza mientras miran hacia el futuro.
